Negotiation: a joke

Negotiation is supposed to be a tool used to compromise between two parties to resolve an issue. It is usually the step before war in the case of countries. However, most times, politicians use it as an excuse to go to war. They may say that it was not possible to negotiate and therefore war was inevitable. In the case of the Vietnam War, Kennedy and Johnson both turned away many documents attempting to appease the situation with Vietnam. This leads one to believe that these leaders wanted to go to war with Vietnam because they did not try to negotiate contrary to what some textbooks read. The "prisoner's dilemma" may be one explanation of why negotiation is bypassed. It explains that one party does not know what the other party is going to reveal, and so it becomes a guessing game and no one wants to let too much information out or wants to give more than the other, and so instead of having to deal with that, they would rather go to war and risk many lives being taken. However, it is possible for lawyers to negotiate every day. Should they be the ones running the country so that war does not happen? That may be an option because they have an organized plan of how to successfully negotiate with both parties leaving happy.
